WHY HAKUBA

Welcome to Hakuba

Thank you very much for choosing Hakuba as your destination from all the ski resorts around the world.

Hakuba Valley is one of Japan’s premier mountain resorts and is highly regarded by skiers and snowboarders from all over the globe.

Hakuba Valley consists of 11 interconnected ski resorts, offering a wide variety of terrain for everyone — from beginners to experts, for both skiers and snowboarders.

Hakuba is located at the foot of the Northern Japanese Alps in the center of Japan.

Alongside Niseko, Hakuba is one of Japan’s most internationally known ski destinations — but Hakuba also offers excellent accessibility.

It takes only about 3 to 4 hours from Tokyo by train and bus, making it easy to travel directly from the airport to the mountains.

Hakuba is also one of the heartlands of the world-famous “Japan Powder.”

Cold air from Siberia meets moist air from the Sea of Japan, creating snowfall that is light, deep, and incredibly consistent throughout the season.

Hakuba is not only known for its snow, but also for its high number of clear days.

This deep blue sky is called “Hakuba Blue,” and the contrast between the white snow, blue sky, and the ridgelines of the Northern Alps creates breathtaking scenery that captivates visitors from around the world.

Hakuba is not just a winter destination.
In green season, guests come to enjoy hiking, mountain biking, rivers, and the cool alpine climate, making Hakuba a true year-round mountain resort.

About Hakuba Goryu

Within Hakuba Valley, Hakuba Goryu is a slightly special place.

Compared to lively areas like Happo or Echoland, Goryu developed as a traditional pension district.
As a result, the nights are quiet and peaceful — perfect for relaxing after a day in the mountains.

At the same time, new restaurants, bars, cafés, and food trucks have been opening in recent years, creating a wonderful balance:
quiet, yet convenient.

Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort offers a well-balanced experience for everyone — from beginners to experts, and from solo travelers to families.
Wide, gentle slopes, long cruising runs, and challenging advanced terrain all come together in one resort.

Thanks to its slope layout and sunlight exposure, Goryu is enjoyable not only on powder days, but also on bright, clear days when carving and cruising feel amazing.

With its stable snow conditions, the resort usually remains open until early May.

Hakuba Goryu is also the only ski resort in Hakuba with night skiing, allowing you to enjoy skiing and snowboarding even under the stars after a full day on the slopes.

About Our Pension

In Japan, there is a special type of accommodation called a “pension.”
This European-style lodging became popular in the 1970s and 80s and is usually family-run, offering a much more personal experience than large hotels.

Our building is not new — but that is part of its charm.
You will feel the warmth of the wood and the atmosphere created by many years of welcoming travelers.
We strive to welcome every guest as if they were part of our own family.

In Japan, it is customary to remove your shoes when entering a home, and to share large communal baths while traveling.
Our pension follows this traditional Japanese way of life.

Take off your shoes and relax.
Warm yourself in the shared bath.

Spend time slowly in the living room.
It is not a hotel, and not a resort — it feels like visiting a mountain home.

In summer, we also welcome guests traveling with their dogs.
No matter the season, we want this place to remain a home where people and nature feel close to each other.

We Look Forward to Welcoming You

Hakuba is more than just a ski resort.
Hakuba Goryu is more than just a ski area.
And our pension is more than just a place to stay.

We hope that the time you spend here becomes a special part of your journey in Japan.

In Hakuba,
in Hakuba Goryu,
and in our small pension,
we truly look forward to welcoming you.
